What do you want to be when you grow up? It's probably been a long time since you've had to answer that question. The path to your career started many years ago, at a different time in your life.

Many of us have, for many years, told everyone of our future goals to publish papers, train in a fellowship, obtain a job in academics, go on international missions, etc.

It is wonderful to have these goals, but we also have to understand and accept that our life situations are ever changing. Medicine is ever changing. Just because we "told everybody" we were going to accomplish certain feats, does not mean we are forever bound to those expectations.

Every so often it is important to reassess the things you do, and the reasons you do them. You don't have to keep your job if you're not happy with it. You can change careers completely. You can make your life whatever you want and need it to be.

WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: This week, take some time to reassess your goals. Are your goals in line with what will make you happy and well, or are you simply trying to live up to expectations you and others had set at a different time in your life?
