"A lot of people live in fear, because they haven't figured out how you're going to react when faced with a certain set of circumstances. I've come to terms with this by looking deeply into whatever makes me fearful - what are the key elements that get the hairs up on the back of my neck - and then figuring out what I can do about it" - Chris Hadfield, Canadian Astronaut

We all have fear. Fear of failure. Fear of our colleagues or superiors thinking us inadequate. Fear of a sick infant we can't intubate. Fear of losing a loved one to illness and death.

Although not always in the forefront of our minds, these fears cause underlying anxiety that inevitably affect all aspects of our lives.

It's important when these fears arise, not to ignore them. To calm our fears, we must acknowledge them, accept them, and tackle them. Whether that's practicing skills we are uncomfortable with, taking time to acknowledge what fears are holding our minds hostage, or talking them out with our superiors, if we don't address them, they will always affect our well-being.

WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: This week, when you have feelings of fear, don't brush them aside. Sit with the feelings, acknowledge them, and find ways to confront and lessen them.
