Weekly Wellness 11/13/2015

We have a fun job. A really fun job. I'm not minimizing all we do, and certainly we have very rough cases, and emotional days, but don't forget to recognize how lucky we are to be doing what we are.

Remember the first time you did chest compressions and left work excited to call your mom and tell her? Or the first time you got an LP and how happy you were to see that fluid dripping out? Or that go to hilarious story you have when someone says, "You're an ER doc? What's the CRAZIEST thing you've seen?"

It's easy to forget these moments when you're focused on moving the room, when the waiting room numbers are piling up, or you're stressed out about getting notes done.

We get to see patients for the first time, diagnose the zebras, come up with the interesting differentials. When the chief complaint says, "foreign body in...." you never know what you'll be pulling out of where.

WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: These fun moments, patients, and diagnoses happen every shift. This week, make sure you're not too busy worrying about logistics to recognize them and have fun at work.
