"To make mistakes or be wrong is human. To admit those mistakes shows you have the ability to learn, and are growing wiser." - Donald L. Hicks
This week, I was wrong. I mean, I'm wrong about things every week. But this week, I was REALLY wrong. I argued over the phone. I felt the frustration building. I told the other person I was certain I was right, but I would look into it further. The nurses were all there listening.
I looked into it. I was wrong. Now, there were nuances. I could have explained why I thought the way I did. I could have talked my way into justifying my 'rightness'.
But I think it's a lot more powerful when people can see your ability to admit you're wrong. I called back the person I was talking with, still with everyone there, and said, "I apologize. You were right. I was wrong."
Being wrong doesn't feel good. Admitting when you're wrong shows more strength and wisdom than weakness. And helps you to let it go.
WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: This week, if you're wrong about anything, in your work or personal life, try admitting it to others and yourself. It's a powerful thing to be able to admit when you're wrong, and helps you move on from the mistake instead of perseverating on it.
