"Be proud of yourself for how hard you are trying" - Anonymous

For some reason, it's easier to get down ourselves than to be proud of ourselves.

Maybe this week you thought you'd be kind, and call a family member or friend you haven't talked to in a while, only to be berated for how little you keep in contact.

Or maybe you had a whole list of academic accomplishments you were going to read, achieve, and only did half of them.

What about that patient you worked so hard to save, only to find that you forgot to order certain lab tests or studies that would have solidified the diagnosis sooner - and that's the only thing your consultants and attendings want to talk to you about?

If you are always looking outwardly for praise, you'll often find yourself disappointed.

It is important to sit down at the end of the day and be proud of everything you do. Nobody goes into a patient's room thinking, "maybe I'll do this half-heartedly". As long as you're trying to better yourself, trying to help others, simply trying, you should feel proud at the end of the day.

WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: This week, each night, spend a few minutes thinking about how hard you try at everything you do. Don't look to the outside for validation. Be proud that each day you've done the best you can.
