"Your harshest critic is always going to be yourself. Don't ignore that critic, but don't give it more attention than it deserves" - Michael Ian Black
Healthcare is a difficult field. Patients yell at us. Consultants belittle us. Superiors are there to remind us of every patient complaint or complication.
Yet at the end of the day, for most of us, we are still our own harshest critic. Rethinking every patient, every mistake, every action and interaction that could have gone better.
It is important to accept our mistakes and always strive to be better. But it's just as important to remember that we're human. We have ups and downs. We have good days and bad. And we can't be perfect all of the time. That doesn't make you less of a doctor. It simply makes you a person.
WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: This week, take it easy on yourself. Take note of when that voice in your head is overly critical, and replace it with thoughts of all the great things you do each day.
