"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so." - Douglas Adams

Each shift, I watch colleagues, residents, and students struggle. Struggling to keep up on notes. Struggling to determine what to prioritize. Struggling talking to consultants, getting the answers they need to their questions. Just.....struggling.

We all struggle. We all have strengths and weaknesses. But all too often, we don't acknowledge our weaknesses. We don't look to those doing it well, doing it better, getting out on time, not getting flustered, and say, "hey, could you teach me how you do that?".

WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: It's hard to acknowledge our weaknesses instead of making excuses for them. It's hard to ask for help. But if you find yourself struggling with an aspect of your job, find someone who's not struggling. Ask them how they do it. You don't have to reinvent the wheel, you just have to be willing to admit your deficiencies, and reach out for help.
