"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do" - Edward Everett Hale
I often get down on myself because of all I don't know. I feel I should be reading and studying more. I should be going to ultrasound conferences, attending ACEP, listening to EMRAP, following every twitter feed on emergency medicine, and so on, and so on.
I cannot do everything. It's unreasonable to expect that of myself. I have to remind myself that I am doing my best. I CAN do emergency medicine. I can intubate a patient struggling to breathe. I can lay to rest fears of a mother with a sick child. I can run a code. I can manage a multi-trauma. I can suture a laceration. I can console grieving family members.
There is so much you can do. There is so much you can do well. Don't get down on yourself for the things you can't do, when there is so much you can.
